NOS, NL 1, Friday June 8th. Focus in this report: The agreement on gas emmissions is not binding but there has been made progress in the promises made to Africa. Blair is given space to say: "We have recommitted ourselves to all commitments we've made in Gleneagles but the important thing is that we've set how we are going to do them." It is said that the world leaders have agreed on giving Africa much attention again at the next G8. "But in Africa the people know what these promises are worth: not much." Instead of stating that Italy and Canada didn't keep their promises, as NOS did earlier, it is now said that the only ones that did live up to their commitments are Japan and England. The opinion of cynics that giving money to Africa is futile is being refuted by professor Hoebink. In the end he says: "Gentlemen, hurry up and prove your promises to be true for once." NOS: "Maybe it will make a difference that one of the G8 gentlemen is now a woman."
